conference bursary
The Geographical Society of Ireland (GSI) will be awarding 3 bursaries on a competitive basis to help fund the costs of in-person participation at CIG 2026, 6-8 May, in Cork.
Successful applicants will be awarded €350.00. This will be provided to awardees as a contribution towards their overall conference related costs. Awardees will be required to register to the conference before the award is given.
The bursaries are intended to support early career researchers without research or conference funding, unwaged researchers without institutional support, and/or international researchers from lower-income countries. To be eligible for a bursary, you must be a presenting author at the conference.
For the application, you will provide a written statement (of no more than 500 words) describing how you will be participating in the CIG 2026, how you will benefit from the bursary, and what positive impacts your contributions to the conference might have for yourself, the discipline and/or broader society. You will also be asked to state the title of the abstract you have submitted for presentation, and submit a signature from a supervisor, PI, head of school/department or other institutionally affiliated figure to endorse your application.
Applications will be reviewed by the committee on the strength of the applicant's proposed contributions to the conference and the potential benefits identified in the written statement. The decision of the committee is final.
Completed applications must be submitted before the deadline of 23.59 IST (GMT+1) Friday 03 April. Late applications will not be considered.
Applicants will be told the outcome of their application week commencing Monday 06 April. By accepting an award, applicants commit to attending and participating in the conference as outlined in their application.
